The Second Opinion

Halloween’s over now, and its passing takes with it the 102 cosmetic items, the Halloween paints and spells, transmogrifiers, spooky crates and event keys. But there’s one item in particular that we’re all going to miss. Okay, maybe not everyone, but most people. Fine, not most people, but most Medics. Alright! Some Medics. Some Medics will miss this item. I’m talking about the Second Opinion. Yes, he is… Oh no.

Health Points and You

I’m going to rant. Ranting is something that Medics do often. It’s understandable really. In a low-skill environment, Medics have to work far harder than anyone else to get anything done. Moving up the skill ladder eases these issues, but they’re still there. The problem not only lies with the Medic himself, but with his team and who he’s healing. Today’s rant is about how people look after their health. Or don’t.

Write Some Moar – The Sequel!

“But Medic, what on earth are you talking about? You write all the time!” I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about the chance to write stories for prizes! More to the point, I’m talking about the wonderful writing contest known as Write Some Moar! on the TF2 SPUF forums. Last time, 29 stories featuring over 70,000 words were judged by a panel of, um, judges, and much fun was to be had. And that fun has returned with the appearance of Write Some Moar! 2. Hosted by Argeon, instead of fighting with weapons, we’re fighting with words for lots… [Continue Reading]

The Binding of Medic

I’m sure some of you have read the Binding of Medic, or maybe played The Binding of Isaac (a very good game, you know) or maybe both. I’m also sure that you’d agree that the Binding of Medic is a fun, amusing way to pass your time on SPUF. In today’s article, we’ll be discussing how I thought up the crazy idea, ways to do your own silly game, a few fun facts and some other bits and pieces.

Surviving Scream Fortress 2013 as a Soldier

You’ve probably guessed by now what my second most played class is. Yes, it’s Soldier. And because of all the spam, not to mention the horrors I’ve seen lately as a Medic, I’ve had to switch to Soldier quite a lot. Actually, I’ve been pretty much forced to play Soldier because a team composed entirely of Scouts, Snipers, Spies, Engineers and a lone Pyro is NOT a good place for a Medic to be. I could play Demoman, but I can’t aim. I could play Pyro, but there’s either one or billions of them. I could play Heavy, but, um…… [Continue Reading]

Surviving Scream Fortress 2013 as a Medic

“What? Surviving Scream Fortress? As a Medic? Surely that should be a piece of cake? It’s just like any other map!” You’re serious? It’s nothing like any other map. It’s an event based on one of the most deathmatch-y maps around, with more spam and confusion than you can shake a stick at. Throw in your normal Hightower threats like Mini-Sentries, and a whole new extra pit for Pyros, Scouts and explosive classes to launch you into, it’s nigh impossible to get around as a Medic. Well, not impossible, but it’s far harder than most Halloween events. Today, we’ll be… [Continue Reading]

Scream Fortress 2013 is LIVE!

Well, the update is up. PLR_Helltower, based off Hightower. It’s the most horrific, nonsensical, spammy Halloween update ever. But at least Medics got something cool: Medic’s Crusader Crossbow now silently reloads when unholstered, similar to Pyro flaregun. In PvP Medics can now see the clip status of a patient’s active weapon Here’s the rest of the update info. About time, don’t you think? Anyway, there’s spell books, a haunted island, all sorts. Explosions everywhere. Fire everywhere. Spells everywhere. Skeletons everywhere… Everything everywhere!

Mangling Cows with Lasers

Everyone and their dog seems to hate the Dr Grordbort weapons, what with their fancy, overly sci-fi look, their overly bright lasers and their overly broken stats and abilities. The Pomson is hated by all but the most stubborn of Engineers. The Phlogistinator is only ever truly considered useful for destroying tanks in Mann VS Machine. The Eureka Effect breaks Arena Mode. And the Third Degree is a direct upgrade. But only one of these weapons has given its name to an illness. Yes, the Cow Mangler 5000. But since it was changed, it’s recovered from its debilitating disease. Almost.

An Odd Relationship…

The Heavy Weapons Guy. Often considered the best pocket for newbie Medics. It’s a very strange relationship. Hand the Heavy-Medic connection to strange fans and they’ll do wonders or, more often,  horrific stuff with it. It’s  funny, sometimes, I can’t make a decision on what to write, but most of the time, I find I’m writing stuff because someone’s mentioned it. Or they just want to see me write something from the view of, um, me. Because I’m clearly really that mercenary who goes around healing people, and I’m quite obviously canon. This leads to an odd scenario. People start… [Continue Reading]
