What’s your dream unusual?

Dear Aaby, what’s your dream unusual? Question by one of Medic’s siblings. Medic: Ummm, I’m not sure. While I’ve always gone on about how much I like the Otolaryngologist’s Mirror, my dream unusual would actually be a Das Hazmattenhatten with the Spellbound or Arcadia effect. Out of all the recent Halloween effects, those really stand out. A second choice, which would never exist, is orbiting Medic emblems. I say that though, I love my bubbly mirror, despite me being neither a doctor nor drunk. aabicus: For many of the reasons stated in this article, I like Massed Flies as my… [Continue Reading]

“Mirrored Maps” event results!

That event was, in my personal opinion, one of our best yet! Ultimately Team 1 swept in a 3-1 victory, losing only Lwobtsud to a ninja backcap by team 2 spy John Caveson. But the real point was to try some mind-bending maps that challenged the hundreds of hours we collectively have on the classics, and I saw more than one person bump into a wall during the event. Kip‘s streams of the event are posted on Youtube for those who’d like to rewatch the event. Thanks Kip and KobeKun for casting the event! And if you missed it, don’t… [Continue Reading]

Why the Ball-Kicking Boots Is My Favorite Cosmetic

My two favorite cosmetics are Archimedes and Giddeon, but if you ignore the birds then my favorite wearable has to be the Ball-Kicking Boots. Generic-looking, yes, but they spawn a soccer ball for your team. In my opinion this trumps any possible visual bonuses from anything else. A free soccer ball has a whole host of uses, almost none of them combat-oriented. Here are some opportunities no other cosmetic will give you. 1. Give your whole team something to do while stuck in spawn. If you’ve played TF2 for any amount of time, you’ve probably gotten bored while confined to… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Zombie Fortress

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. I’m Brickinator and today’s mod is the imaginatively titled ‘Zombie Fortress’; a game type which features the undead because everything does these days. Just as you’d expect, RED team start off as survivors and BLU are the zombies. The survivors cannot respawn but the zombies can, so there’s a constant stream of the brain-munchers throughout the match.  Luckily for the survivors, the zombies can’t use guns. But they can carry baseball bats and knives for some reason. Maybe they were armed by a Glaswegian gang or something. The classes you can play as are restricted;… [Continue Reading]

A distinct lack of hue and blog posts

With blogs, it’s important to keep them up to date with new content. That’s a very hard job to do, because most things change all the time. Even immobile things like rocks and Brass Beast Heavies change. At best, a blog ought to have content posted regularly, even if it doesn’t go back and fix things that may have changed and stuff like that. Most blogs have multiple people working on them, delivering content on a semi regular basis. At the SPUF blog, TheSupremeCommander hosts the blog, Aabicus and myself maintain the site in general, iGamr announces new posts and… [Continue Reading]

In Defense of Nucleus

I frequently play on KotH servers that rotate the stock maps, and I have found that the least popular KotH map that comes up is Nucleus. It seems everyone loves Harvest and Lakeside, find Sawmill and Viaduct tolerable, but they seem to hate Nucleus. I personally cannot figure out why! So why is Nucleus a good map? Lack of Spammability on the Central Point One thing that Viaduct and Sawmill, and to a lesser extent, Harvest, suffer from is the ever-present spam around the final point. Soldiers and Demomen lob rockets, grenades, and stickies onto the point as if they… [Continue Reading]

Medi Guns VS Machine

The Stock Medi Gun is considered one of the most powerful weapons in the game, despite the fact that it doesn’t do anything damage-wise. After a nice 40 or so seconds, you get invulnerability for eight seconds, which can only be ruined by knock back and things like that. It’s a force to be reckoned with, a force that can only be countered by sheer power. Unless that power happens to be hordes of robots. It seems as though the Medi Gun is actually the weakest Medi Gun to use in Mann VS Machine! The Kritzkrieg is considered the be-all… [Continue Reading]

Cross-Updating Announcements: An Apology

A reader and writer of our blog, Sn❽wman, just informed me that because I didn’t update the 10v10 Mirrored Maps blog announcement like I did the SPUF announcement, he had no idea signups had come and gone. I feel really bad about that, I just didn’t know we had readers who weren’t also SPUFers. In the future I will make sure to update both announcements with up-to-date information as to the status of signups and other aspects of events like these. (Note that its unlikely I will ever have people sign up through the blog; you will probably need to… [Continue Reading]

The Three Halloween Bosses And… You?

As my favourite holiday being Halloween (Christmas is my second favourite.) I’ve decided why not make an article about TF2’s Halloween Bosses: The Horseless Headless Horsemann, Monoculus (Latin for One Eye) And Merasmus (Latin for Decaying).   So why not start with the first boss added in 2010: The Horsemann. His base health is 3,000 with an additional 200 per player (His official Minimum is 5,000 while is Official Maximum is 7,500.) His speed is 400 Hammer Units (That of a scout.) attack range is 200 units. His Scare Radius is 500 units. He’s easily taken down to half-health with… [Continue Reading]
