The Huntsman isn’t too bad.

Everyone whinges on, day in and day out about how shitty the Huntsman is. The Lucksman. The Fucksman. The C*ntsman. All abusive names. People hate this Sniper weapon with a passion, even more so than the fuck-up that is the Machina. People hate the Huntsman more than the new, Sniper-screwing Darwin’s Danger Shield. But the Huntsman isn’t that bad. In fact, with a few tweaks, I believe it could be the most balanced Sniper weapon ever. I know why everyone hates the Huntsman. It’s somewhat spammy. When you’re using a weapon that can headshot people for 150 damage, then maybe… [Continue Reading]

Why can’t I not use the SMG?

I hate playing Sniper, so thankfully I rarely get the chance to, leaving it up to people who can aim to fill that role. But every so often, once in a blue moon, I’ll pick up Sniper, only to throw him back again. Every time I do play Sniper though, I’m stuck with the same old question. “Why the hell am I still using the SMG?” Well, what are the other options? Everyone’s favourite jar-based karate has been around for a long time. Then there’s Sniper’s various backpack items – the Danger Shield, the Razorback and the Cozy Camper. Oh… [Continue Reading]

Why I, as a Medic, really really hate Snipers

Really, this should be obvious. And I should start off with being 100% honest that I dislike dying – I just want to heal people and spread Medic-y goodness. So really, any class that kills me is going to get ranted at more than necessary. That is, unless they can protect me and net me lots of assists. Don’t look at me like that, I need to get my violent blood lust somehow, and whenever I draw my syringe gun, you all bitch at me. Plus, people need to put my healing to good use. But nothing irks me more… [Continue Reading]

May 18th – 24th

The first notable date this week takes us back to 1996, way before TF2 was even remotely on the radar. Version 2.9 was released for Team Fortress Quake, and it turned out to be the last update that game got before Team Fortress Classic usurped it as the Team Fortress of choice. Fast forward 13 years, and TF2’s Sniper vs. Spy update was getting released on May 21, 2009. This time, Valve tried to fix a problem where every time they released a class update the entire game got flooded with 90% of every server playing the new class. To this effect, Sniper… [Continue Reading]

Cops & Zombies 1: Sniping

Assault rifles felt like an obvious place to start this series, what with assault rifles being the generic all-purpose middle ground of the gun spectrum, but personally I’ve always found sniping a more interesting balance challenge for a co-op horde game. You’re being flooded with a bottomless wave of bad guys, why on earth would you want a semi-automatic long-range weapon when an assault rifle can clean an entire courtyard faster? Because you’re on a team, that’s why. If your three allies can keep the bulk of the enemy down, you become something of a specialist who excels in picking specific targets,… [Continue Reading]

The Classic: Underpowered or Misunderstood?

Not too long ago an update hit, an update that some think of as the bane of TF2’s existence thanks to the addition of these then new taunts, mainly the conga, however there was a shining light to the update: we got 4 new weapons! That’s right, four whole new weapons, one being the Classic, which is suppose to be a homage to TFC’s Sniper Rifle. The Classic received a graphical update that’s very faithful to the original model, and honestly the gun looks amazing. Despite being ecstatic about this homage, I found myself a bit dumbfounded at the stats,… [Continue Reading]

On Snipers and Engineers

Name your three most hated classes in TF2. I wouldn’t be surprised if Engineer and Sniper were included in that list. People complain about both classes, one which seems lacking in a skill ceiling, the other having an infinite one, but perhaps Sniper and Engineer have more in common than we think? When you look at an Engineer, you see someone locking down an area with their sentry gun. Their sentry makes sure that you’re not getting past without some heavy hitters, preferably a Demoman, occasionally an Ubercharge. Everyone calls the Engineer stupid and skill-less, because the sentry does a… [Continue Reading]

Medic’s Fifth Ever Competitive Match – 404 Medic not Found

No, seriously. What just happened? I have no idea. Week 6’s match was absolutely all over the place. I’ve decided, I’m not actually going to attempt to describe it. I don’t think I can. It was mental. Insane. Crazy. I don’t know any more! So instead of trying to make something coherent from that match, I’m just going to go over all the good bits. But first off, self-loathing! Turns out, I suck at every class but Medic, and I really need to play more Demoman, because sticky bombs and the Pain Train are the best weapons ever. Maybe try… [Continue Reading]

Why I love Sniper

Sniper is an awesome class to play. Even though he often gets derided on SPUF, he’s a really fun class to play. 1. He’s unique in terms of playstyle I see why this can be controversial, but he’s different from the others, where he’s likely to be a loner rather than try to get in everyone’s face. He knows the concept of personal space and prefers to work his magic from afar. He’s the only class to me where accuracy often depends on what rifle I’m using. His headshot mechanic used to be his bread and butter until the Spy stole… [Continue Reading]

CTF, a fun gamemode or the paradise of engineers, snipers and scouts

Okay, now I am gonna talk about CTF. CTF AKA Capture-the-flag is one of the most frequently criticized gamemodes in this game. But I try to argue that it actually is quite fun. Some arguments I hear about CTF not being fun: 1. It is either an steamroll or a camp-fest: Well that is a point I can’t really argue against, as it really depends whether the enemy team fortified their intel room with sentries or not. But for the steamroll argument I just have to say no. I do not understand why people say that steamroll-ability is bad. Yeah, I… [Continue Reading]
