The Team Fortress 2 that preceded Team Fortress 2 is finally available on Steam via Greenlight! Fortress Forever is one of the largest fan-made Team Fortress games out there, designed to appeal both to fans of Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2. It’s fast-paced, frantic shooting and (best of all in my opinon) everybody talks like they’re a pirate! Definitely go give it a shot!
I’m going to rant. Ranting is something that Medics do often. It’s understandable really. In a low-skill environment, Medics have to work far harder than anyone else to get anything done. Moving up the skill ladder eases these issues, but they’re still there. The problem not only lies with the Medic himself, but with his team and who he’s healing.
Today’s rant is about how people look after their health. Or don’t.
“But Medic, what on earth are you talking about? You write all the time!” I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about the chance to write stories for prizes! More to the point, I’m talking about the wonderful writing contest known as Write Some Moar! on the TF2 SPUF forums. Last time, 29 stories featuring over 70,000 words were judged by a panel of, um, judges, and much fun was to be had. And that fun has returned with the appearance of Write Some Moar! 2. Hosted by Argeon, instead of fighting with weapons, we’re fighting with words for lots… [Continue Reading]
I’m sure some of you have read the Binding of Medic, or maybe played The Binding of Isaac (a very good game, you know) or maybe both. I’m also sure that you’d agree that the Binding of Medic is a fun, amusing way to pass your time on SPUF. In today’s article, we’ll be discussing how I thought up the crazy idea, ways to do your own silly game, a few fun facts and some other bits and pieces.
You surely know the Scout. You probably know he’s a baseball fan from Boston. You may know his mom has been having some romantic visits from his co-worker. But did you know he has ties with the Chinese mafia? Or that he is actually just a very lonely guy that needs a hug?
Okay, that last part may not be true, but either way, the Red Sox, the Chinese mafia, and I are proud to present the upcoming event:
The First Annual Guillotine Games!
So what is this all about? You will be fighting with and against other scouts with this exact same loadout. Your only means to kill are Sandman balls or cleaver hits. Hit them in succession to gain a very satisfying instant kill. Way to duck, pallie!
Once you’ve thrown them both, however, you’re harmless until the recharge, so best start chasing those Sandman balls! We will be playing several map types: Koth, Arena and 5CP. Again, only killing with the aforementioned weapons! After that, we will play an individual tourney. In tense 1 on 1 matches it will become obvious who the better Scout is, who will then be fighting other winners, and in the end, only one remains: the victor of the First Annual Guillotine Games!
So sharpen your cleavers and swing your bats for the upcoming tournament, and be the Last Man… well, boy, Standing!
thesupremecommander here with a Public Service Announcement. No, not a Team Service Announcement (though you should definitely go watch those). (And maybe this doesn’t count as a PSA since we’re technically advertising, but then again I run this blog, so is it really advertising if I’m talking about things related to this blog?) Anyway, I digress… I’m sure that many of our loyal readers have heard about the SPUFserver before. If you haven’t, the SPUFserver is a server started by some moderators of SPUF and continued on by me today as a place for the denizens of SPUF to hang out within… [Continue Reading]
Heads up! Today marks the start of the submission period for SPUF Anthology Cast 1! The deadlines for submissions is the Sunday after next, November 26th! As a part of our inaugural cast, there will be a special reward for anyone included in this cast, so get those submissions in! I am also cooking up a few new special segments, stay tuned on the SPUF thread and steam group later for details on those. (Also, looking for a better acronym/name. Any ideas?)
It seems like SPUF is always in two minds when it comes to glitches within our expansive game of TF2. Whether it’s high-fiving someone into the enemy spawn or staying invincible as a Medic, we’ve certainly seen our fair share of bugs that Valve has accidentally exposed over the years.
Of course, the latest one on the public mind (but not a recent one, dating back to just after last Halloween when it occurred) was the persistence of Halloween spells on items beyond when they were supposed to expire. This glitch was patched during and after this year’s update, with all spell items expiring but all items with spells applied to them allowed to keep the spell (with the caveat that the spells would only be visible during Halloween/full moon). This recent action has caused quite the outpouring, with a thread gaining steam on SPUF and a blog post on this very site, showing how much SPUF is in two minds about every issue.
Since every stance has a counterstance, I’m here to offer the opposing point of view: to all those complaining, deal with it.
You can still rock your glowy paints on full moons! Picture by FeelGoodInc.
Today, we mourn the loss of our beloved hue-changing beauties, as the TF2 community is forced to return to the world of monochromatic monotony that is normal paint. Spell enthusiasts new and old have had their favorite cosmetic toy taken from them in what could be considered the worst possible way to handle the entire situation (explained further below).
My losses include my once painstakingly-perfected Goldier, pictured below, as well as his Festive and Haunted variants meant for such illustrious occasions as the Christmas season (or infrequent snow map), Halloween, and Full Moons.
Recently I learned, to my astonishment, that the other people on SPUF actually consist of more than usernames and bodiless personalities.
On October 7th my newlywed wife and I departed on a honeymoon cruise to Hawaii, and on the 16th visited the district of Kona. There, I met up with SPUF’s spy master and Stormy Storm Team Captain-rocker Captain Blades!
Turns out the Macho Mann exists as well. Who knew? I’m the one in the middle with his fly down because I hadn’t learned this trick yet.
The Captain gave us a private tour of the island, which was awesome because we hadn’t the forethought to sign up for any of the guided tours. We couldn’t visit any of the national parks because the American Government was shut down for what I’m sure were very excellent reasons, but we still saw many of the beautiful sites Kona had to offer!
