Put Me In, Coach!

I was surprised the other day, when I was futzing around with my HUD, that the coaching button still exists. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone use this to any sort of effect ever. Has anyone else? Share your coaching stories in the comments, won’t you? Now, we’ll get into the real nitty-gritty here. What did this coaching function ever actually do? It’s a fairly straightforward concept, actually. To be a part of this system, you need to sign up using the megaphone icon on the homepage. There, it will prompt you to sign up as a coach, and… [Continue Reading]

Mannpower is the new TF2 Beta in Disguise.

Now before I say anything else, I would just like to point out that this is theory, as in pure speculation, none of this is officially confirmed. OK, now since that’s out of the way let’s talk about Mannpower. My first reaction to this “game mode” was that it was incredibly silly. Grappling hooks and powerups that make you super stronk were something I expected from custom mods and trade servers, not from an official Valve beta.  That is until I spent time looking through it and looked at the details which lead me to believe that Mannpower is just… [Continue Reading]

The Unbalanced Infinite-Hitscan-Range-Man

Walking along Frontier, trying to actually do the objective, and then bam. Sniper headshots you from across the map, and proceeds to taunt, because “Snipin’ gud job m8.” I’m sure everybody who has ever played TF2 has experienced this pain at least once. My opinion has always been that the Australian Camper Van Man has been unbalanced, and some people could argue that he isn’t unbalanced because his weakness is close range, well heads up, the Jaratewacka combo exists. OK, enough talk, let’s get into why he’s unbalanced. 1. Sniper effectively counters everybody Really the only class that moves fast enough on the ground to… [Continue Reading]

Holy Grappling Hook, Fatman!

So, Smissmas came and went, and in my honest opinion, I thought it was a bit of a disappointment, to put it politely. The new weapons were meh, the Festive weapons(aside from Bonk and Shotgun) sucked and we only got 7 of them, most of the cosmetics weren’t really that interesting, and they nerfed the Tide Turner. Say what you want about End of the Line, but at least it didn’t ruin a well-established weapon. Oh, and we also got Mannpower, perhaps the most casual gamemode in existence despite nocrits. The powerups are so overpowered it’s ridiculous, not to mention… [Continue Reading]

What happens on cp_orange…

cp_orange_x3 might just be my favorite custom map in all of TF2, for entirely the wrong reasons. It was there for me, man. From the beginning. And it’s always been there for me. cp_orange_3’s immortal popularity is no surprise to me; it’s a memory featherwight. You can play it on anything. For two months after graduating college I lived in a 125-square foot apartment with two roommates in San Francisco. I didn’t even have room for a desktop, I could only use my laptop on my bed and steal internet from the hotel next door. The only map I could play… [Continue Reading]

The 600th Daily SPUF Article

It seems like five minutes ago that we published the 500th Daily SPUF Article. I actually lost track of time. Plus other awful things happened, which meant that the 600th article came quicker than I thought. The last 100 articles have been yet another wild ride. If you can call it that. So yeah. This is the 600th article. Woo. For the previous hundred post milestones, I’ve done contests. I was going to do a contest this time round, but contests are, well, kinda lame when you don’t have any time to prepare prizes or a theme for said contest.… [Continue Reading]

On Trimping

Trimping is what separates the demoknights from the demoknaves. iReima has a great series where he turns a sword and shield into deadly instruments of ballet that let him put to shame anyone who considers the demoknight an underpowered subclass. Personally I can’t trimp to save my life. It’ll happen on accident a lot, and I mastered the minor ability to land on slopes and negate fall damage, but I use that in my sticky-jumping instead. I don’t think it’s much of a secret that when I want to play an advanced mobility class, I bust out the Sticky Jumper… [Continue Reading]

Cookies with the Mercs

Today, I decided to do something very different. I decided to reveal who I really am. That’s right guys, I am not really Medic. I am in fact ENGINEER! Just kidding. I simply moonlight as an Engineer, whenever Carnival or Halloween comes along. Or when I decide to do baking! Yes. Baking. You think Engineer leaves all those dispensers to idle when he’s not busy defending the intelligence? “Medic!” you ask. “What are you baking today?” I’m glad you asked. I’m making double chocolate cookies. The recipe comes from She Wears Many Hats, but I’ve modified the recipe to better… [Continue Reading]

One of the best GMOD Video makers is gone…

Today has been a bad week for, well, everyone, particularly the GMOD and TF2 communities. kitty0706, esteemed Garry’s Mod and TF2 video maker, most famous for Team Fabulous 2, has passed away. According to Facepunch and later on Reddit, Colin Wyckoff (Kitty0706) passed away on 25th January 2015, after a long struggle against Leukemia. According to those who knew him, he was always upbeat and optimistic. May he rest in peace, free from pain. The rest of this video will be dedicated to some of kitty0706’s best videos. Coherent GMOD animation takes skill, no matter what people say.   Be right back,… [Continue Reading]

Passive abilities

TF2 doesn’t feel like a game with a lot of passive abilities. There are few obvious ones, such as the scout’s double-jump and the Pyro’s afterburn immunity, but when you look into things, it turns out that almost every class has at least one. First of all, its debatable whether “more than 125 health” counts as a passive ability. Even though its pretty clearly the baseline for TF2, some people might consider speed and health a form of statistics instead of abilities. It’s also debatable whether any ability that requires equipping a weapon would count, like “can remove sappers” or… [Continue Reading]
